Authorities in Nakuru County are searching for Elias Njau, a church official accused of a shocking attack on his partner, Florence Njeri.
The incident happened near Njeri’s home on Thursday and has left the community in shock.
Njau reportedly stabbed Njeri multiple times before fleeing, leaving her with severe injuries.
Njeri, who is now recovering in a Nakuru hospital, revealed that the attack was triggered by a disagreement over their relationship and financial matters.
She explained that she had told Njau she wanted to end their relationship and asked him to repay money he owed her. “I told him it was time to let everything go, but he could not take no for an answer,” Njeri said.
During the violent encounter, Njau inflicted 18 stab wounds on Njeri and even severed several of her fingers.
“He stabbed me on my right leg repeatedly and then started tearing at it before running away,” she said.
Njeri has already undergone one surgery and is expected to need several more to treat her injuries. Despite her pain, she remains determined to see justice served.
The Rift Valley Regional Commander, Jasper Ombati, has assured the public that Njau will be arrested soon. “His days as a free man are numbered.
He can save us time by turning himself in, but he should know he can run, but he cannot hide,” Ombati said.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about Njau’s whereabouts to come forward.
Leaders in Nakuru County have condemned the brutal attack and called for swift justice for Njeri.
Gender Principal Secretary Anna Wangombe has offered support to Njeri’s family and pledged to provide legal assistance.
“We will stand with the family and, when the investigations are complete, provide pro bono legal services to ensure justice is served,” Wangombe stated.
The incident has reignited concerns about the increasing cases of gender-based violence in Kenya.
Many activists and leaders are urging the government to take stronger action to protect women and prevent such acts from escalating into femicide.
Gender rights advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of laws against perpetrators and improved support systems for survivors.
Community leaders have also emphasized the need for public awareness campaigns to change societal attitudes and encourage people to report abuse early.
