Residents of Emurua Dikir in Narok County are living in fear after a wanted suspect resurfaced and killed his neighbor in cold blood before disappearing.
The suspect, identified as Meshack Cheruiyot, had been on the police wanted list for previous crimes but had been in hiding for months.
According to witnesses, the suspect targeted a 42-year-old man with a disability, attacking him inside his shop on a Saturday afternoon.
The victim, who was at his pool table shop, was caught off guard as Cheruiyot stealthily entered and stabbed him 16 times in the head with a sharp knife.
Despite the swift response from residents, the suspect managed to escape into the nearby bushes.
The motive behind the brutal killing remains unclear. However, locals revealed that Cheruiyot had a history of similar crimes and was considered dangerous.
After committing the murder, he was reportedly overheard threatening to harm more people in the village, causing panic among residents.
Families in the area, especially the victim’s, are demanding justice. The deceased man's widow expressed deep sorrow over losing her husband, who was the family’s breadwinner.
Left with young children to care for, she called on authorities to speed up investigations and arrest the suspect.
The victim’s father also criticized local police for their slow response to the case.
He explained that the murder was reported to the authorities three weeks ago, but no significant progress has been made in apprehending Cheruiyot.
“We are asking the government to intervene and ensure justice is served,” he said.
Residents have also voiced their concerns about security in the area, fearing for their safety as the suspect remains at large.
Many have accused the police of laxity, urging them to intensify efforts to track down the fugitive before he commits further crimes.
The shocking incident has left the once peaceful village in turmoil, with many unsure of what might happen next.
