"Poleni" Mjaka Mfine Apologises For Mapangale Dance Challenge With Crazy Kennar, Here's The Reason

Content creator Mjaka Mfine, known for her vibrant online presence, has issued an apology after participating in the controversial Mapangale dance challenge.

The challenge, created by Reggae MC Zendiambo, has drawn criticism from a section of Kenyans for allegedly promoting violence against women.

The dance mimics the swinging motion of a machete aimed at the neck and head.

While some people found it entertaining, others, including Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, strongly condemned it.

Mutua described the challenge as harmful, stating, “This song promotes violence against women.

One dancer simulates attacking his partner with a panga. How is that not promoting violence? It’s not funny; it’s harmful.”

Mjaka Mfine, who teamed up with comedian Crazy Kennar to perform the challenge, faced intense backlash online.

Many criticized her for joining a trend perceived as insensitive, especially after she had previously spoken out against femicide.

The reaction forced Mjaka to take down the video and address the public in an emotional statement.

“I am here to apologize,” she said. “Two weeks ago, I made a video about femicide and was among the first people to speak against it.

Then, after that, I made a video with Crazy Kennar. I do not support femicide. I only did it as a dance challenge. I’m sorry if I offended anyone.”

While some of her followers supported her apology, others questioned her judgment in participating in the challenge.

Comments online ranged from criticism to indifference, with one user advising, “Don’t just jump on every challenge without reasoning.”

The Mapangale controversy has sparked wider discussions about the influence of social media trends and the responsibility of content creators.

Critics argue that creators like Mjaka Mfine and Crazy Kennar should be more mindful of the messages they promote.

Despite the backlash, Mjaka remains a popular figure in the Kenyan digital space. Previously, she made headlines for an altercation in a matatu, where she caused a stir over KSh 50 change.
