The closure will take place from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM. This is to allow the smooth running of a 21-kilometer half marathon event in commemoration of World Aids Day.
KeNHA's Director General, Kung'u Ndung'u, made the announcement on Saturday, November 30, and urged motorists to plan ahead for the traffic disruptions.
The marathon is being held to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, and the road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
Motorists traveling through this busy section of Mombasa Road are advised to follow the alternative routes suggested by KeNHA's traffic management plan.
The authority has also asked drivers to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be directing traffic during this time.
This will help minimize confusion and ensure that traffic flows smoothly around the affected areas.
The closure of Mombasa Road comes shortly after another major traffic disruption in Nairobi.
Just a week ago, KeNHA announced the closure of the Haille Sellasie roundabout along Uhuru Highway for 51 days to allow for the construction of a pedestrian underpass.
This is part of an ongoing effort to improve road infrastructure in the city.
In addition to the recent disruptions, KeNHA has also been working on improving road connectivity in other areas.
For example, there have been road construction and drainage works along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway, specifically between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe Interchange.
This work, which started earlier in November, is expected to be completed by December 1, 2024.
As the marathon draws closer, KeNHA has reiterated its call for all motorists to follow road signs and cooperate with the authorities on-site.
The road closures and traffic disruptions are meant to enhance safety and ensure the success of the World Aids Day marathon while also continuing with the much-needed road development projects in the area.
Motorists are encouraged to be patient and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays.
