His body was discovered near River Yala on Monday, November 25, 2024, three days after he went missing.
Dr. Omuteche disappeared on Saturday, November 23, after visiting his farm near the Jordan River.
According to Ebulonga Chief Evans Ouya, the lecturer had gone to prepare his cowshed and collect sticks but never returned home.
Worried family members raised the alarm when he failed to show up later that day.
A search team was formed, and suspicions grew when freshly cut sticks, known as fiddles, were found on his farm.
One of the fiddles was spotted lying in the flowing waters of the Jordan River, leading to fears that he might have drowned. This prompted an intensive search of the area.
On Monday, the search came to a tragic end when Dr. Omuteche’s body was found at the intersection where the Jordan River meets River Yala.
His remains were retrieved and taken to the Itando Mission Hospital mortuary as police began investigations to determine whether his death was accidental or involved foul play.
Chief Ouya described Dr. Omuteche as a dedicated educationist and a key figure in the community.
He was known for helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their dreams by providing financial support for their education.
Additionally, he created jobs for local youths through various development projects.
“Dr. Omuteche was one of the few educationists in our area who truly cared about the community.
He helped many young people and always sought to uplift those in need,” Chief Ouya said.
The death of Dr. Omuteche has left a deep void in the lives of his family, students, and the entire Ebulonga community.
Residents are now awaiting answers from the ongoing investigations by Luanda police to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
