The unsettling incident happened during a routine inspection when the bus stopped at the Busia border.
The skull was found wrapped like a parcel among the passengers' luggage.
Authorities determined it belonged to a female passenger on the bus, who was immediately arrested and taken to the Busia Police Station.
The police confirmed that she is awaiting arraignment in court, where she will face formal charges.
The discovery caused a stir among the locals, with many gathering outside the police station to demand answers.
Residents expressed their concerns about the growing insecurity at the border, questioning how such an item could be transported undetected until it reached Kenya.
One resident stated, “We need to know where the skull came from and why it was being moved. Authorities must ensure justice is served.”
Others called for stricter border inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"Today it’s someone else’s skull; tomorrow, it might be mine," another worried resident remarked, emphasizing the need for stronger security measures.
The bus driver and conductor, who were questioned by the police, were later released, and the bus was allowed to continue its journey to Nairobi.
Passengers, though shaken, expressed relief at being allowed to proceed after the investigation.
This incident has drawn comparisons to a separate case earlier in Webuye, where a pastor was arrested after human body parts were found in his car at a local carwash.
Such cases have heightened fears of illegal trafficking and the smuggling of human remains in Kenya.
Busia residents are now urging authorities to step up their vigilance and ensure that those involved in such crimes are brought to justice.
