"Walizika Nguo" Family Puzzled As Students Keep Form One Daughter's Death A Secret, Bury Her Clothes

A family in Kirinyaga is grappling with grief and confusion after their 15-year-old daughter, Irene Wambui, was found dead under unclear circumstances.

Irene, a Form One student, had been sent home from school to collect fees but never arrived, sparking concern among her family members.

After a week of searching, the family learned the heartbreaking news that Irene's body had been found in the Sagana River and identified her at the Murang'a mortuary.

The tragedy took a disturbing turn when the details of Irene’s last day began to emerge. According to reports, after being sent home, Irene and five classmates decided to visit the Sagana River for a swim.

This detour led to a tragic accident, as Irene apparently disappeared in the water.

However, instead of alerting authorities or her family, the students chose to remain silent, keeping her family in the dark for days.

Her family, worried and desperate, reported her as missing to the police, hoping she would be found safe.

But it was only when Irene’s body surfaced in the river that the friends disclosed what had happened.

Family members expressed frustration and sorrow that they were left without answers for so long, feeling betrayed by the students' silence.

The situation became even more unusual when investigators accompanied the students and the family back to the riverbank.

At the scene, the students revealed they had buried Irene’s clothes near the river after the incident.

The clothes were dug up in front of the family and investigators and are now in the custody of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as part of the ongoing investigation.

Lydia, an aunt of Irene, expressed the family’s sadness and frustration, saying that they are seeking answers from the authorities about what truly happened.

She questioned why the students chose not to inform the family immediately, leaving them to worry and search aimlessly.
