"We're Heartbroken" Pain As Turkana KCSE Candidate Mysteriously Dies Minutes After Finishing His Final Exams

A cloud of sadness has fallen over a family in Turkana County after the sudden and unexplained death of John Ekalale, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate from Talent High School.

The 18-year-old had just finished his Agriculture exam on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, before his tragic death.

Reports say Ekalale went missing shortly after completing the exam and was last seen by his classmates in good health.

When he did not show up for supper, his friends searched for him and found him in critical condition in the dormitory.

They quickly rushed him to Rufa Hospital in Lodwar, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The headteacher of Talent High School, Samuel Otieno, confirmed the incident, expressing his grief. “He was one of my best students, always disciplined and hardworking.

His death has shocked us all, and we are deeply sorry for the family’s loss,” Otieno said. However, he avoided giving further details, explaining that investigations are ongoing.

Ekalale’s family is devastated and angry, accusing the school of handling the matter poorly.

They claim they were not informed promptly about his critical condition and demand answers about what happened.

“We are heartbroken. The school should have reached out to us sooner. We need to know the truth about what caused his death,” a family member said.

The police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a probe into the incident.

Authorities have assured the public that they will uncover the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and determine whether foul play was involved.

This tragedy is not an isolated case, as another KCSE candidate in Migori County also passed away recently while battling health complications.

These incidents have sparked concerns about student safety during the stressful examination period.

Ekalale’s death has left the community in shock, with many calling for better safety measures in schools and improved handling of emergencies.

His family and friends are now waiting for answers that will provide closure and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
