The family of Electine Diana Alaka, a young woman from Kakamega, Kenya, is desperately seeking assistance as she remains stranded at a deportation center in Saudi Arabia.
Diana, who traveled to the Gulf country to work as a house help, has been facing a series of unfortunate events that have left her in a vulnerable and distressing situation.
Diana’s journey to Saudi Arabia began when she forged documents to secure a job without informing her family.
Her aunt, Jennifer Shisia, shared that Diana went to Nairobi, where she was connected to an agent who processed her travel documents.
Although Diana had traveled without her parents’ consent, the family continued to stay in touch, unaware of the challenges that awaited her.
Upon arriving in Saudi Arabia, Diana faced severe mistreatment from her employer, including exposure to chemicals that damaged her health.
Desperate for a solution, she reached out to her agent to transfer her to another employer, but the agent proved uncooperative.
Feeling trapped and unsafe, Diana made the difficult decision to run away.
She found temporary help from a group of women who took her in, trying to assist her in finding another job.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse, and Diana was abandoned at a deportation center.
Jennifer Shisia explained that, despite their efforts to reach out for help, the agent who had initially facilitated Diana’s travel blocked their communication.
As the situation became more dire, the family learned that Diana was in poor health and urgently needed financial assistance.
The deportation office demanded a fee of KSh 46,000 for her release, warning that without immediate payment, Diana could be detained for up to a year.
The family is struggling to raise the money, with Diana's mother also unwell and unable to provide much-needed support.
“Our hands are tied,” said Shisia, speaking to local media.
She further emphasized that the family had been sending money to the agent and trying to negotiate her return, but the lack of cooperation has left them helpless.
