Police in Githika, Kiambu County, made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, arresting three men in possession of combat uniforms, an imitation firearm, and marijuana.
The operation, conducted by officers from the Githika police station, was prompted by a tip-off from concerned locals.
The suspects, identified as Rogers Okidos, 26, Godfrey Ndiba, 25, and William Rohara, 25, were apprehended during a raid on a house in Githangi village.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the property had garnered notoriety as a hub for packaging and selling marijuana.
“The officers raided a house in Githangi village, notorious for being a hub where young men and women package and sell bhang,” a DCI spokesperson revealed.
Upon conducting a thorough search of the premises, police confiscated an array of illegal items.
These included an Administration Police smoke jacket, an imitation firearm, 29 rolls of marijuana, rolling papers, and Rizla pads, which are commonly used for rolling cannabis cigarettes.
These discoveries raised alarm about the activities within the residence and the potential for more extensive criminal networks.
The use of combat uniforms and imitation firearms suggests the suspects might have been involved in activities beyond drug distribution.
Police are now investigating whether the trio had plans to use the gear for impersonation or other illicit purposes, potentially threatening local security.
It was through the initiative of local residents, who provided valuable intelligence to law enforcement, that the police were able to act swiftly and effectively.
The collaboration between the public and authorities reflects a growing commitment to making communities safer.
“This raid is a testament to the role of local intelligence in curbing illegal activities. Without the support of the people, such operations would be challenging,” said a senior officer involved in the operation.
The suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment. Authorities have stated that the trio will face charges related to the possession of illegal items, including marijuana, and possible impersonation of law enforcement officers.
The outcome of the legal proceedings will determine the next steps in addressing the activities linked to the suspects.
Marijuana use and distribution have been a persistent challenge in many parts of the country, often linked to other forms of crime.
