Police in Kericho County are investigating the mysterious death of a middle-aged man whose body was found dumped in a thicket at Marumbasi Village in Sigowet location.
The tragic discovery was made on Sunday, December 15, after the man, a resident of Chemegong Village, went missing the previous night.
According to family members and locals, the deceased was last seen on Saturday night drinking with friends at a bar in Corner Trading Center. However, he never returned home, raising concerns among his family.
Family members, who had been searching for him, discovered his lifeless body dumped on a farm in Marumbasi. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, but initial reports suggest he may have been killed before his body was disposed of at the scene.
Locals who spoke to authorities expressed shock at the incident, stating that the man was well-known in the neighboring village.
“We don’t understand why someone would want to harm him. He was seen having fun with friends the night before,” said one of the villagers.
Following the discovery, the incident was promptly reported at Sondu Police Station, where officers launched immediate investigations into the matter.
Police have since arrested one suspect believed to be connected to the death. The individual is currently in custody and assisting detectives with their inquiries.
Sigowet location Chief confirmed that the suspect’s interrogation is ongoing as police work to establish the motive behind the killing and identify any accomplices.
“We urge residents to remain calm as investigations continue. Anyone with information that could assist the police should come forward,” the chief said.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to Sigowet Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The incident has left residents of Sigowet location in shock and fear, with many calling on the police to expedite investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
“We hope the authorities will take this matter seriously and ensure the culprits are punished,” said a resident.
