Silas Keya Ekicheche, a young man from Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County, has become an inspiration to many after graduating as the valedictorian of Egerton University's 48th graduation class.
Despite facing early challenges in his education, Ekicheche's perseverance and dedication to his studies led him to achieve first-class honors and a master's degree in History and International Studies.
Ekicheche's journey to success began with humble beginnings. In his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams, he scored 275 marks, a result that might have been considered average.
However, instead of letting this score define him, he worked hard throughout his academic career, showing resilience and determination to excel.
His efforts paid off as he graduated at the top of his class, standing confidently before his peers to deliver a motivational speech during the graduation ceremony.
In his speech, Ekicheche reflected on the difficulties he encountered in life and education.
He acknowledged that his journey was not easy, but he believed that every challenge he faced only strengthened his resolve to succeed.
"The experience taught me to be creative, consistent, and innovative," he shared, explaining how he had to cope with the demands of his studies despite many obstacles.
As the valedictorian, Ekicheche expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study at Egerton University, emphasizing the role the institution played in shaping his academic and personal growth.
He also thanked God for the grace and guidance that led him through his transformative educational journey.
He urged his fellow graduates to face life’s challenges without fear, encouraging them to remain focused and determined as they ventured into their careers and futures.
