Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki recently addressed questions regarding his potential presidential ambitions in 2027.
During an interview at his Karen office, Kindiki made it clear that his focus is on fulfilling the responsibilities of his current position, not on future political plans.
The question, asked by NTV’s Michelle Ngele, revolved around whether Kindiki would seek to succeed President William Ruto if Ruto decided not to run for re-election.
In response, Kindiki described the question as "unfair." He explained, “I have just been entrusted with a very serious and grave national responsibility.
What is weighing in my mind now is the desire to take charge of those obligations.”
He emphasized that his priority is to help the Kenya Kwanza government deliver on its promises to the people of Kenya.
According to Kindiki, discussing his future political aspirations at this time would not be appropriate.
"If I started occupying myself with ideas of what would happen then, I would be the most unsuitable person to be seated before you here today," he said.
Kindiki’s comments reflect his commitment to his current role as Deputy President.
He further declined to engage in any negative discussions about his predecessor, former DP Rigathi Gachagua.
When asked by KBC’s John Jacob Kioria about the lessons Kindiki might have learned from Gachagua's political challenges, including his impeachment, Kindiki chose not to speak critically of Gachagua.
“Leadership is defined by certain ethos and parameters,” he said, adding, “I want to persuade you to allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua because he is my friend.”
Kindiki also responded to suggestions that the Deputy President’s seat may be "cursed," pointing out the difficulties faced by past DPs and Vice Presidents.
"I do not believe any seat is cursed," he asserted, stressing that his focus is on handling the challenges at hand.
He explained that he is not concerned with whether or not he will remain in the role, as his priority is to serve the people of Kenya effectively.
