On December 24, 2024, Margaret Ndung'u, the former Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and Digital Economy, faced a personal tragedy with the passing of her mother, Rosemary Nyambura.
In a message of condolence, President William Ruto shared his heartfelt sympathies, praising the deceased for her prayerful and hardworking nature.
Ruto described Rosemary as a dedicated woman who served her community selflessly.
"Our condolences to former ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura for the loss of her dear mum, Rosemary.
She was prayerful, hardworking, and dedicated to community service.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of mourning. Rest In Peace, Cucu," President Ruto wrote on social media.
Alongside the President, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who has been nominated to take over from Ndung'u as the new ICT CS, also expressed his sorrow.
Kabogo extended his condolences to Margaret Ndung'u and her family, describing the loss as a difficult moment for them all.
“My sincere condolences to Former ICT CS Margaret Nyambura for the demise of her beloved mum, Rosemary.
May our Lord Jesus Christ see the family through this very difficult moment,” Kabogo shared.
Rosemary’s death came just one week after Margaret Ndung'u's reassignment from her role as ICT Cabinet Secretary.
She was appointed Kenya’s new Ambassador to Ghana, a position that will see her represent the country in West Africa.
The new appointment, which involved a significant reshuffle, also saw Andrew Karanja move from the Ministry of Agriculture to become Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil.
As part of the ongoing reshuffle, Kabogo, who has been nominated as the new ICT CS, will face vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on January 14, 2025.
He will be joined by other Cabinet Secretary nominees, including Mutahi Kagwe, who is nominated for Agriculture, and Lee Kinyanjui, who is proposed for the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry.
