A family in Narumu Ward, Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania, is mourning the untimely death of 26-year-old Neema Piter.
The young woman was fatally stabbed by her former partner, Mage Hilari, after refusing his request to rekindle their relationship.
The incident occurred when Mage, who had separated from Neema two years earlier, invited her out for a drink under the guise of friendship.
Initially, the meeting seemed innocent, with the pair dining and drinking together.
However, things took a deadly turn when Mage attacked Neema, stabbing her in the stomach after she rejected his proposal to reconcile.
Neema’s sister, Lucrecia Malya, is inconsolable over the loss of her sibling.
Speaking through tears, she fondly recalled Neema’s kind-hearted nature, emphasizing how her sister was always ready to help whenever she was in need.
"Each time I was sick, she would arrange for a boda boda to take me to the hospital," Lucrecia shared, highlighting Neema's selflessness.
Local authorities in Kilimanjaro confirmed the tragedy and reported that several people had been detained as part of their investigation into the incident.
Officials assured the grieving family and the public that thorough legal measures would be pursued to bring those responsible to justice.
Neema’s tragic death has once again raised concerns about intimate partner violence in Tanzania and beyond.
Social media users reacted strongly to the news, offering sympathy to the family while expressing outrage at the suspect's actions.
Many called for swift and decisive justice to deter similar crimes in the future.
