Gibson Murage, the renowned businessman behind Modern Furniture Pacific, has vowed to rebuild after a fire destroyed his furniture factory in Ruiru, Kiambu County, on the morning of December 18, 2024.
Speaking at the scene, Murage expressed his gratitude that no lives were lost and reassured his employees and customers that operations would continue.
“This fire was caused by a power surge when electricity was restored after a blackout.
These things happen, and we must take them as lessons,” Murage said, maintaining a positive outlook despite the devastating loss.
The Ruiru factory, which serves as a major supplier for Modern Furniture Pacific’s showrooms in Nairobi, Nyeri, and Nakuru, was completely gutted.
Over 300 employees were affected by the incident, which Murage acknowledged with empathy.
“I know many of my workers are now jobless, but I want to assure them that we will rebuild this factory, and it will be bigger and better.
We cannot dwell on what has happened. Instead, we must look ahead.”
While the Ruiru factory is currently out of commission, Murage clarified that business in his showrooms across the country would continue uninterrupted.
He highlighted the role of another production facility in Gikomba, which will ensure that customer orders are fulfilled without delay.
“For those who ordered furniture online, don’t worry—your goods will be delivered on time,” he said confidently.
Addressing the emotional toll of the incident, Murage spoke about the importance of leadership in tough times.
“If I cry, what will my employees think? Who will give them the strength to move forward? As their leader, I must stay strong for them,” he stated.
Murage also revealed that he has already begun sourcing replacement items from suppliers to restock his showrooms and keep the business running smoothly.
“We thank God for giving us the strength to face this challenge, and we are determined to come back even stronger,” he concluded.
The incident has sparked an outpouring of support on social media, with many Kenyans expressing solidarity with Murage.
