The residents of Mogoget village in Nandi County are mourning the untimely death of Melissa Jepchumba, a young woman full of promise.
Melissa, who had just graduated from Maasai Mara University on Monday, December 9, lost her life in a tragic road accident along the Narok-Bomet Road early Saturday morning, December 14.
The accident occurred in the Tegero area at around 4 a.m. when a Toyota saloon car collided with an Easy Coach bus traveling in the opposite direction.
According to police reports, the driver of the Toyota lost control, veered off the lane, and hit the bus.
Melissa, a passenger in the Toyota vehicle, died on the spot, while three others sustained minor injuries.
Melissa’s recent graduation marked the beginning of what was expected to be a bright future.
She had earned a diploma in Social Work and Community Development, a field she was passionate about.
Her family and friends describe her as hardworking, compassionate, and determined to make a difference in society.
The tragedy has left her family devastated. Chemusei Member of Parliament Biego Paul Kibichiy, who visited the family to console them, expressed his sorrow over the loss.
“This is a profound loss not just to the family but also to the community. Melissa had just started her journey to success after completing her studies.
My prayers are with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sirtui, during this difficult time,” he said.
Melissa’s death has cast a shadow over Mogoget village, where she was well-known and loved.
Her classmates at Maasai Mara University have also expressed shock and grief, describing her as a kind and focused individual who aspired to create positive change through her career in social work.
