A violent and disturbing incident in Nakuru has left the community in shock, following the tragic death of 52-year-old Elijah Matoke Maina.
Matoke passed away in the hospital after suffering severe injuries from an alleged acid attack by his wife.
His death has raised many questions about the state of domestic relationships and the dangers of unresolved conflicts.
Neighbors have come forward, revealing that Matoke’s relationship with his wife had been far from peaceful.
The couple, who had been married for three years, frequently argued, and their fights often escalated into violence.
According to Benard Gichuru, a neighbor, he had been called multiple times to intervene and mediate their disputes.
He shared a chilling revelation from Matoke's wife, who once stated that if her husband didn’t have money, he wasn’t the man of the house.
“This love of theirs was not love of love; it was love of money,” Gichuru remarked, reflecting the materialistic nature that seemed to underpin their troubled relationship.
The tragic turn of events occurred after a violent altercation between Matoke and his wife, during which the conflict allegedly escalated into a brutal acid attack.
Matoke was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His wife and son have since been arrested as the primary suspects in the attack.
Police have confirmed that they are in custody and will be charged with murder once the investigations are complete.
Matoke’s daughter, Claris Mghoi, shared an emotional recount of her father’s final moments. She was in Kericho when she received a call notifying her that something terrible had happened to her father.
In an emotional video, Claris described her rushed journey to Nakuru, filled with uncertainty and dread.
At the hospital, she held her father in his last moments, a memory that will forever haunt her.
