The family of Erastus Nduati Muigai, whose burial in Limuru was marred by violence, has publicly denied any connection with the political leaders who attended the ceremony.
The chaotic scene, which occurred when former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was reading the eulogy, caused a great deal of confusion.
Gachagua’s security detail was forced to act as goons attacked his entourage, throwing chairs and stoning vehicles.
Muigai’s father, Muigai King'ori, addressed the media, strongly refuting claims that he had any association with politicians.
He made it clear that no politician had ever visited their home prior to his son’s death.
King'ori stated, “No one can stand in Limuru and claim they saw me interacting with any politician,” adding that he had never been involved in any political dealings.
He dismissed rumors suggesting that the family had orchestrated the attack against Gachagua, stating there was no political agenda behind the tragic incident.
King'ori clarified that the family had no ties to the politicians who attended the burial, including Gachagua.
The disturbance occurred during a speech by former MP Peter Mwathi when an unidentified group of attackers brought down the VIP tent, causing chaos among mourners.
The violence quickly escalated, forcing the family to remove the body from the scene for safety.
As the situation grew more intense, attendees fled the scene, and the event turned from a solemn occasion into one filled with confusion.
In addition to the emotional pain of losing their son, the family faced financial losses due to the destruction of hired chairs.
However, Limuru MP John Kiragu Chege stepped in to help, replacing the damaged chairs and easing the family’s financial burden during a difficult time.
Following the disturbance, an elderly local resident expressed deep disappointment over the events, lamenting the dishonor brought to the funeral.
The elderly man went on to curse those who had orchestrated the chaos, wishing that they would experience the same pain in the future.
