A Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student, Benedict Kiptoo, was tragically stabbed to death by his girlfriend just days before he was set to graduate.
Kiptoo, who was 24 years old, was a third-year student at the KMTC Kitale campus.
His graduation was scheduled for Thursday, December 5, but his life was cut short in a violent incident on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
The stabbing occurred after a heated argument between Kiptoo and his girlfriend, a 24-year-old hotel waitress.
The argument is believed to have been caused by a love triangle dispute.
Neighbors living near Kiptoo’s home in Kibomet, on the outskirts of Kitale town, described their relationship as troubled, with frequent disagreements between the couple.
After the stabbing, Kiptoo managed to knock on a neighbor’s door, seeking medical help.
Dr. Evans Letting, a nearby neighbor and doctor, rushed to assist him.
He was bleeding heavily and was quickly taken to Wamalwa Kijana Teaching Referral Hospital, but treatment was delayed.
Kiptoo was later transferred to Cherangany Nursing Home, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Local police were called to the scene, where they found Kiptoo lying in a pool of blood.
A kitchen knife was recovered from the crime scene, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
The girlfriend, who has not been arrested, is the prime suspect in the stabbing. Police have promised to press murder charges once they capture her.
Kiptoo’s death has left his family, friends, and the KMTC community in shock.
He was known as a dedicated and ambitious student with dreams of working in the healthcare sector.
His classmates and friends remember him as a hardworking young man who was looking forward to contributing to the medical field.
As investigations continue, the police are working to gather more details about the incident.
