A mother in Migori County is mourning the tragic loss of her three-year-old son, who was allegedly killed by his stepfather after a heated argument with his wife.
The incident occurred on the night of December 4, 2024, in Sagegi sub-location, Suna East sub-county.
The boy, identified as Justus Nyabioya, was found dead the following morning by his mother, Juliet Nyaboke.
Assistant Chief Daniel Osika confirmed that the suspect, identified as Josephat, had been married to Nyaboke for a year.
The conflict between the couple reportedly escalated on the night of December 4, leading to a violent confrontation.
Osika revealed that the suspect’s daughter had reported that her father locked her and her younger brother inside the house after their mother fled to avoid further confrontation.
The girl, sensing danger, managed to escape through a window but was unable to free her brother from the locked house.
When their mother returned the next morning, hoping to reconcile with her husband, she found the house locked from the outside.
In a desperate attempt to enter, neighbors had to break down the door, only to discover her son's lifeless body lying on the floor, covered with clothes.
This heart-wrenching incident has left the community in shock, and the authorities are doing everything they can to locate the suspect, who remains on the run.
Assistant Chief Osika has called on the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of Josephat, emphasizing that the crime was “heinous” and urging residents to help ensure justice for the young child.
This tragic event adds to a growing list of incidents where domestic disputes have escalated into violence, leaving children as innocent victims.
The case has drawn attention to the urgent need for better support systems for families experiencing domestic violence and the importance of creating safer environments for children.
