A promising Kenyan athlete, Joan Jepngetich, tragically passed away in a car accident in the United States on Christmas night, December 25, 2024.
Joan, who was just 24 years old, died after the vehicle she was traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Rock Island County, Illinois.
The accident occurred at around 10:33 p.m. local time (6:00 a.m. Kenyan time).
Moments after the crash, the vehicle caught fire, but Joan had already passed away from the impact of the crash.
Two other passengers in the vehicle, including the driver and another passenger, survived the incident but suffered serious injuries.
They were quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
