Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has spoken out about the rumors suggesting tension between him and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, denying any involvement in his impeachment.
Addressing the media, Kindiki, who took office a month ago, emphasized that their relationship remains strong despite reports to the contrary.
“It would be wrong for me to say anything negative about Rigathi Gachagua,” said Kindiki, dismissing any claims that he had a hand in his predecessor’s removal from office.
He clarified that the two have been allies for years, and he has always respected Gachagua, even before and after Gachagua left office.
“He is my friend. I have never spoken ill of him, and I have no reason to,” Kindiki added, rejecting any allegations of a personal or political rift.
Kindiki’s comments came in response to rumors that suggested a strained relationship between the two leaders after Kindiki assumed office.
Despite these rumors, the Deputy President stressed that leadership is guided by principles of respect, and there is no room for personal conflicts.
He stated, “Leadership is defined by certain ethos, and I will not discuss my brother Rigathi in any bad way.”
Turning to the matter of Gachagua’s impeachment, Kindiki clarified that the issue is still under judicial review.
He pointed out that the Supreme Court had ruled on the matter, making it clear that the impeachment was a result of a judicial decision, not political interference.
“The impeachment is a matter of law, and it’s still a subject of court decision,” he said, emphasizing that court rulings, while final, can vary based on the case's unique circumstances.
Kindiki also referenced the case of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who survived two impeachment attempts, to explain how judicial outcomes can differ even in similar cases.
“Judgements are often influenced by court injunctions. One court might lift an injunction, while another may not,” he explained, underlining the independence of the judiciary.
