Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is filled with joy following the successful recovery of two former TV journalists, Eunice Omollo and Kimani Mbugua, who had been undergoing rehabilitation at the Mombasa Rehabilitation Centre.
Sonko expressed his deep gratitude for the support provided by the center, medical professionals, and, most importantly, divine intervention in the recovery journeys of the journalists.
Eunice Omollo, who previously worked with NTV, and Kimani Mbugua, a former journalist at Citizen TV, had both faced significant personal challenges.
Through their time at the Mombasa Rehabilitation Centre, they received the care and attention they needed to overcome their struggles.
Omollo is now set to embark on a new chapter in her career as she prepares to join K24 TV.
Kimani Mbugua, on the other hand, has fully recovered and is excited to reunite with his family for the upcoming Christmas season, marking a fresh start after months of overcoming mental health challenges.
In an emotional statement, Sonko credited the journalists' recovery to "God's grace," the unwavering efforts of the rehabilitation staff, and the dedication of the medical team.
He emphasized that their journeys serve as a powerful reminder that with faith, care, and support, recovery is possible.
Sonko specifically thanked the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Centre for its role in transforming their lives.
Sonko’s visit to the center was filled with heartfelt moments, with the two journalists expressing their appreciation for the former governor’s ongoing support throughout their six-month rehabilitation process.
Kimani Mbugua shared his excitement about returning to his career and rejoining the public in a healthy, reformed state.
“I’m back, and I’m going to be seen on the right channel, not in that psychotic, violent, and shameful place I was in before, but in my right senses,” Mbugua said with gratitude.
The news of their recovery also comes with the announcement that Congestina Achieng, a former boxing champion, is soon to be discharged after completing her rehabilitation at the same facility.
Sonko shared his joy for Achieng’s progress and expressed his hopes for her continued recovery.
With this uplifting news, Sonko emphasized the importance of faith, rehabilitation, and support systems in overcoming personal struggles.
He ended his statement with a blessing for both journalists and Congestina, wishing them strength as they begin their new lives.
