The study, which involved 2,400 participants from various parts of the country, highlights five major issues citizens feel require urgent government intervention.
Topping the list is the high cost of living, with 51% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction. This issue has been a major challenge for President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza government, as many families struggle to afford basic necessities such as food, housing, and utilities.
Unemployment follows closely, with 36% of Kenyans raising concerns about the lack of job opportunities. The increasing number of unemployed youth, coupled with a slow job market, continues to frustrate many, despite government efforts to address the issue through economic reforms and programs.
Corruption also featured prominently in the survey, with 24% of respondents identifying it as a major obstacle. Many citizens believe that graft within public offices hinders development and negatively affects service delivery.
Overtaxation emerged as another critical concern, with 23% of Kenyans raising issues about heavy taxes. Additionally, the introduction of the Social Health Authority, which replaced the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), has faced mixed reactions, with 23% of respondents citing challenges with its implementation.
Other concerns mentioned include infrastructure development, healthcare affordability, and education.
Around 13% of Kenyans highlighted the need for better infrastructure and healthcare services, while 12% emphasized the importance of affordable education and reduced business costs.
Furthermore, 9% of respondents pointed out the issue of extrajudicial killings, urging the government to take swift action to address such incidents.
President Ruto, while addressing the 11th National and County Governments Coordinating Summit, responded to critics of his leadership.
He defended the government’s efforts, particularly regarding Taifa Care, the new healthcare system, saying it was already showing positive progress. “The naysayers are becoming fewer,” Ruto remarked, dismissing claims that the program was failing.
Ruto further condemned misinformation and fake news, which he said distort facts and mislead the public. He emphasized the importance of constructive criticism and assured Kenyans that his administration remains committed to delivering on its promises.
