Speaking at a thanksgiving service at Friends Church (Quakers) in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County, on December 8, 2024, Kindiki revealed that the government’s strategy is to ensure that senior leaders reach as many people as possible across the country by attending separate services.
According to Kindiki, this approach is part of a broader plan to interact with the public and spread the message of development to all corners of Kenya.
"We have decided to divide ourselves into various groups so that we can reach as many parts as possible," he explained, adding that having both him and President Ruto attend the same event would limit their ability to cover more areas.
Kindiki emphasized that although the President and Deputy President sometimes attend separate events, they are still working together as a team to promote development. He noted that the government is keen on ensuring inclusivity, meaning that development efforts are spread out evenly across the country.
"If we all stay together in one place, the speed of development will be slow," Kindiki stated.
This division of duties also allows other senior government officials to take part in outreach activities. Kindiki pointed out that other key leaders, like Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, are also conducting separate visits to different regions. Mudavadi, for instance, was in Kilifi, while Wetangula was in Wajir, demonstrating the government’s collective effort to cover more areas and engage with citizens on various issues.
In addition to explaining the rationale behind their separate church visits, Kindiki also addressed the ongoing matter of the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The Deputy President defended the government’s position, stating that the delay in reconstituting the IEBC is due to a court injunction preventing the formation of a panel to select new commissioners.
He urged critics to avoid politicizing the issue, stressing that the government is working to resolve the matter in accordance with the law.
Kindiki also took the opportunity to announce some new government initiatives during his visit to Kakamega.
He shared that President Ruto had pledged to donate a brand-new bus to the church, and he promised to deliver 100 computers to a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Navakholo by January 2025. These donations are part of the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and educational opportunities for the youth.
