Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made bold promises to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka about the 2027 presidential elections.
Speaking during a funeral in Mbooni, Makueni County, on December 18, Gachagua assured Kalonzo that Mt Kenya could bring 10 million votes to his side.
He encouraged Kalonzo to secure 4 million votes from Ukambani and nearby regions.
“You must increase your votes in Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, and other areas to between 3.5 to 4 million,” Gachagua said.
“Once you get to that number, look for me. Our region will bring 10 million votes. Together, we will form the next government.”
He urged young people across the country to register as voters to strengthen their political impact.
“The youth must not wait for the last minute to register. We need everyone on board to ensure victory,” he said.
Gachagua expressed confidence in a partnership between Ukambani and Mt Kenya, describing it as unbeatable.
He emphasized that Mt Kenya voters always align with winning teams and hinted that Ruto had lost their support.
“We wanted to support Ruto for two terms, but after the first term, he became disrespectful.
That deal ended there,” Gachagua explained. “Mt Kenya does not owe him anything anymore.
The only debt we recognize is with Kalonzo and the people of Ukambani, for their support of Mwai Kibaki in 2007.”
He criticized some leaders in government for disrespecting Kalonzo, calling it unnecessary arrogance.
“It’s unfair to insult leaders like Kalonzo, who has widespread support across the country,” he said.
Additionally, Gachagua condemned the ongoing demolitions in Nairobi, which have left many families homeless.
“We cannot allow demolitions targeting the poor during Christmas. This is not the Kenya Kwanza we promised,” he remarked.
The former DP also hinted at a new political coalition, saying he was in talks with Kalonzo, Eugene Wamalwa, and leaders from Maasailand to form a strong alliance focused on economic recovery.
“We are building a team of like-minded leaders to fix our economy and end the culture of lies in politics,” Gachagua said.
