Kalenjin musician Faith Therui has shared the painful details of her failed marriage to Addison Cheruiyot, a relationship she had once hoped would be her happily-ever-after.
Married in 2022, the couple’s union ended in heartbreak after a series of betrayals came to light, leaving the singer grappling with both emotional and financial strain.
Speaking candidly, Faith revealed that during their marriage, she took on the responsibility of paying her husband’s university fees while he pursued studies at Kabarak University.
Driven by love and a belief in his potential, she went above and beyond to support him.
“I told him to continue studying because music is unpredictable,” Faith explained, recalling how she would ask for receipts to ensure the fees were paid.
However, she later discovered that the receipts had been falsified.
Her husband had inflated the actual fees, claiming they amounted to KSh 135,000 per semester when the true figure was KSh 76,000.
This shocking revelation came through an unexpected source—a second-hand phone she purchased from a friend, which still contained messages on Messenger detailing the fee manipulation.
The discovery left Faith heartbroken and furious. “I saw dust,” she said, describing her emotional turmoil.
The betrayal was not just about the money but also the trust she had placed in her husband, a man she had hoped would build a life with her.
Faith admitted that her desire for marriage had driven her to overlook red flags in the relationship.
As a single mother raising her teenage son, Kibet, she had longed for a stable family life.
“I wanted marriage so badly,” she confessed, explaining that she wanted to give her son a complete family after her previous relationship did not lead to marriage.
Fans had cautioned her against rushing into marriage, but she dismissed their concerns.
Now, in hindsight, she regrets not heeding their advice. She drew parallels to the late Kalenjin singer Diana Chelele, whose troubled marriage ended tragically.
