A family in Shibanga village, Butere, Kakamega County, is reeling from the loss of their firstborn son, Elvis Mukunzi Okute, who died in a road accident on the Sabatia-Bukura Highway.
Elvis, a 40-year-old teacher at Vision Academy, was hit by a speeding vehicle at around 7 PM as he was heading home from school.
The tragic accident claimed Elvis's life instantly, leaving his family and community in shock.
His mother, Lillian Shompa Okute, is particularly devastated. Currently in Nairobi recovering from a thyroid gland procedure, Lillian shared her heartbreak over the untimely death of her son.
“I spoke to him earlier in the day, and he promised to call me once he got home. I’m still waiting for his call,” she said with deep sorrow.
Elvis was not just a teacher but also the sole provider for his family.
He was a loving husband and father to two children, and his death has left a significant gap in the lives of his loved ones.
The family now faces an uncertain future without his support.
The director of Vision Academy, where Elvis worked, expressed his grief at losing such a talented and dedicated individual.
“Elvis was one of the most brilliant minds we had. His contribution to the school was invaluable, and his loss is a tragedy for everyone,” he said.
The community in Shibanga has come together to support the grieving family during this difficult time.
Elvis’s body was taken to Butere Funeral Home, and preparations for his burial are underway.
Meanwhile, authorities have impounded the vehicle involved in the accident, and the family is working to resolve any outstanding issues related to the incident.
This tragedy has also reignited concerns about road safety along the Sabatia-Bukura Highway.
Residents are urging motorists to exercise caution and calling on authorities to implement measures to curb reckless driving.
Lillian has appealed for prayers and support as the family mourns their loss. “The pain of losing my son is unbearable. I need your prayers to get through this,” she said.
