Ogutu opened up to TUKO.co.ke about how she got back into the dating world after her children finished school, but her encounters have left her feeling disappointed.
Ogutu explained that after her divorce in 2019, she decided to wait for her children to finish high school before considering dating again.
She now finds herself alone, with her eldest child working and the other two in college. However, her recent experiences in the dating pool have been less than ideal.
In March 2024, a friend introduced Ogutu to a man who seemed promising.
Before meeting him in person, Ogutu sent her brother to meet him in Nairobi for a background check.
After her brother’s warning, Ogutu remained cautious. When they met in Kenya, Ogutu took extra precautions by booking a hotel for herself and her brother.
She also made it clear that the man would not be staying with her, as it was their first meeting.
During dinner, Ogutu noticed that the man drank heavily, which she didn’t like.
The real trouble began when the bill came. The man suddenly walked out to take a phone call, and Ogutu quickly realized he couldn’t afford the KSh 32,430 (about $250) bill. Her brother had to cover the cost.
Their next meeting also raised red flags. Ogutu overheard the man asking his friends for money, as he didn’t even have enough for airtime.
When she asked him about his finances, he claimed he was waiting for his salary.
Shocked by his lack of preparation, Ogutu realized that she was dealing with a man who wasn’t ready for a serious relationship.
Later, Ogutu met another man who initially approached her for help but later began giving her unsolicited business advice and trying to control her.
Their brief relationship ended when she blocked him after realizing he wasn’t the right match.
