Speaking during a public event, Waititu claimed that the people of Mt Kenya are increasingly unhappy with the President’s leadership.
"Nobody in Mt Kenya wants to see Ruto’s face," Waititu said. "Some even turn off their TVs when they see him."
These words reflect growing frustrations among residents who feel let down by the Kenya Kwanza government.
Waititu explained that the anger stems from unfulfilled promises made by Ruto and his team during the 2022 elections.
According to him, the high cost of living and economic challenges are the main reasons for the dissatisfaction.
"The people trusted this government to improve their lives, but instead, things have gotten worse," he said.
"Families are struggling to put food on the table, and the price of everything keeps going up."
Waititu pointed out that the economic hardships have hit the Mt Kenya region particularly hard.
Small businesses, which are the backbone of the region, are struggling to survive due to high costs of goods and services.
"Mt Kenya residents expected the government to support their businesses and create opportunities, but that has not happened," Waititu added.
"The promises of economic revival remain just words."
The former governor also noted that divisions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition are making matters worse.
Some leaders from Mt Kenya feel sidelined in key decisions and appointments, adding to the frustration.
Political analysts believe these tensions could lead to a shift in the region's support if the government does not act quickly.
Waititu urged President Ruto to take the concerns of Mt Kenya residents seriously.
He called for immediate measures to address the cost of living and ensure that the government’s promises are fulfilled.
"The President must listen to the people. He needs to act now and show that he cares about their struggles," he emphasized.
