President William Ruto has nominated Lee Kinyanjui, the former Governor of Nakuru County, as the new Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry.
This decision is part of a broader effort to revitalize the ministry and strengthen Kenya's economic standing.
The announcement, made from State House, emphasized the need for experienced leadership to guide the ministry.
President Ruto expressed confidence in Kinyanjui’s abilities, citing his strong leadership record and focus on development.
“Lee Kinyanjui has the skills and experience needed to advance Kenya's trade agenda.
His leadership will play a key role in attracting investments and supporting local industries,” President Ruto stated.
Kinyanjui brings a wealth of experience to this new role. He previously served as the Governor of Nakuru from 2017 to 2022, during which he championed projects aimed at improving infrastructure and creating jobs.
His initiatives focused on making Nakuru County a business-friendly environment and a hub for investment.
Before his tenure as governor, he also served as the chairman of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and as the Member of Parliament for Nakuru Town.
In his acceptance remarks, Kinyanjui expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him. “It is an honor to be chosen for this important role.
I am committed to working for the betterment of our economy and ensuring Kenya becomes a preferred investment destination,” he said.
The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry plays a critical role in shaping Kenya’s economic policies.
It focuses on promoting local businesses, improving trade opportunities, and attracting foreign investments.
Analysts believe Kinyanjui’s appointment will inject new energy into the ministry and align its goals with the government’s economic agenda.
Political observers also see this move as significant in Kenya’s political realignments.
Kinyanjui was previously a member of the opposition coalition Azimio during the 2022 elections.
His nomination has sparked discussions about President Ruto’s efforts to include leaders from diverse political backgrounds in his administration.
