Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei shocked a congregation on Sunday when she disclosed that President William Ruto personally directed her to initiate the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at the commissioning of AIC Kipkorgot Church in Ainabkoi Constituency, Shollei left attendees astonished as she revealed her unwavering loyalty to the president.
“Your excellency,” she addressed Ruto, who was seated among the guests, “I am your loyal soldier.
If you say Gachagua must go, then I will ensure he goes. I follow orders without question.”
Her statement caused a stir in the room, with congregants turning to observe President Ruto's reaction.
The president was seen covering his face with one hand, smiling uncomfortably at the bold remarks.
Shollei explained that her actions were purely driven by her allegiance to Ruto, not personal grudges against Gachagua.
“It is about protecting the leadership of our president,” she stated. “If someone is seen as a threat to the unity of the government, we must act decisively.”
She justified the impeachment on grounds of Gachagua’s behavior, which allegedly included divisive remarks and a perceived lack of respect for Ruto.
However, Gachagua, prior to the motion, had publicly thanked Shollei for supporting him during the challenging days of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, when he faced multiple arrests.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who sponsored the motion, later revealed that he received significant benefits in return.
“I was rewarded with development projects for my people,” he stated, mentioning the construction of the Emali-Ukia Road, job opportunities, and other government-backed initiatives.
“This was a mutual understanding to ensure progress in my region while supporting the president’s vision.”
Shollei’s public admission has sparked discussions about loyalty and internal politics within Ruto’s administration.
While some applauded her dedication, others questioned the implications of such revelations on the integrity of the government.
