A mother from Ngurubaini in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, is distraught as she searches for her 16-year-old daughter, Shirleen Wambui, who has been missing since January 3, 2025.
Grace Migwi, a mother of two, last saw her daughter in the morning when she left home to visit a salon.
Shirleen, a Form Three student at Mugumo Girls High School, had asked for money for a hair makeover, and her mother, believing it was a routine errand, gave her the money.
The plan was simple Shirleen would go to the salon, and then return home later in the day.
However, when Grace returned from work that evening, her daughter was nowhere to be found.
The mother waited, but hours passed with no sign of Shirleen.
Concerned, she called the salon where she believed her daughter had gone, only to be told that it was closed that day because the salonist had attended a funeral.
This left Grace even more worried, as it was clear her daughter had never made it to the salon.
Grace's frustration grew as she checked Shirleen's room and found that only the clothes her daughter loved to wear remained.
Without a phone to contact her daughter, and no way to know where she was, Grace took the step of notifying the police, though she has not received any updates so far.
The last time Grace spoke to her daughter, Shirleen mentioned a desire to visit a children’s home and donate clothes she no longer needed, a plan that further raised questions about her sudden disappearance.
Neighbors reported seeing Shirleen leave the house around 3:30 PM, but after that, there have been no leads.
Shirleen’s disappearance has left her family and friends in shock. Grace is doing everything she can to find her daughter, reaching out for any information that might help in locating her.
The mother has urged the public to contact her at 0728136111 if they have any information.
The community and authorities are now joining forces in the search for the missing teen, hoping for a safe and swift reunion.
