As the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results approach, both students and parents across the country are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the exams.
The Ministry of Education has, however, reassured Kenyans that there will be no delays in the release of the results, which are expected to follow the usual timeline and be out within the next few days.
On December 26, 2024, Basic Education Principal Secretary, Dr. Belio Kipsang, confirmed that the results would be released on time.
“This is the second year we are releasing results in January, and we are sticking to the schedule,” Dr. Kipsang said.
He addressed growing concerns about delays, emphasizing that releasing the results in December had often led to rushed processes.
“When we release in December, everyone says we are hurrying to release results.
But this year, we’re releasing them in January, just as we did last year,” he explained.
The announcement came after 10 days had passed since Dr. Kipsang’s statement, fueling the anticipation.
Parents and students are eager for the results, with many holding their breath in hopes of success.
Dr. Kipsang also reassured everyone that the integrity of the exams remained intact.
He denied any claims of manipulation, saying the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had been working diligently to finalize the results for what is considered the largest KCSE cohort in history.
With the exams now over, stakeholders in education, including the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA), are also urging changes in the education system. KESSHA Chair, Willy Kuria, spoke out about the harmful effects of school rankings, which he believes contribute to unhealthy competition and exam malpractice.
“We need to focus on policies that encourage the all-round development of students, not just their exam scores,” Kuria said.
Dr. Kipsang assured the public that every student would receive the grade they deserved, reflecting their hard work throughout the four years of secondary school.
“Examiners have been given ample time to ensure fairness and accuracy,” he stated, offering hope to anxious students and parents.
As the day draws closer, all eyes are on the Ministry of Education for the official announcement.
