Eric Omondi, a former comedian who has turned to philanthropy, has stepped in to help a woman from Kisii who was violently attacked by her neighbors.
The disturbing incident was captured on video and quickly went viral, bringing attention to the woman's plight and sparking support from well-wishers.
The victim, Faith Kathambi, a 34-year-old mother of one, was accused by her neighbors of stealing a packet of flour. In the video, Kathambi can be seen holding her baby as she is dragged through the streets and physically assaulted by a group of male neighbors.
They slapped and kicked her in front of her frightened child. The video, which circulated widely on January 4, 2025, showed Kathambi in distress, both emotionally and physically.
Kathambi's family later revealed that they live in extreme poverty, which makes them vulnerable to such attacks.
They explained that the neighbors barged into their home and demanded to know if Kathambi had taken the flour.
The incident left the family shaken, and they expressed their fear that such violence could happen again.
Moved by the video, Eric Omondi took action to help. The philanthropist called on Kenyans to raise funds to assist Kathambi.
His goal was to help her find a safer place to live, away from the hostile environment created by her neighbors. Eric shared an update on January 18, 2025, saying that KSh 876,000 had already been raised.
This amount was deposited into an account set up for Kathambi, and Eric appealed for more donations. He expressed the need to buy land and build a house for her, as she could no longer feel safe where she was living.
The target amount for the project is KSh 3 million, and the response from Kenyans has been heartwarming.
Many praised Eric for his genuine efforts to help, and numerous people offered their support.
"The sincerity of your engagement is pure. May you never lack," one person commented.
Eric Omondi’s efforts to support Kathambi are not the first of their kind. He has been involved in several charitable initiatives, including helping an orphaned boy build a house. His actions have inspired many to step up and help those in need.
