Nairobi’s Chief Officer of Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has hit back at Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over allegations of corruption and extortion.
The two leaders have clashed after Babu accused Mosiria of involvement in shady deals, including the illegal sale of government medicine and extorting businesses in Nairobi.
In a strong response, Mosiria dismissed the accusations, urging anyone with proof to come forward.
“If you have evidence against me, take it to the police. Have me arrested. Take me to court,” Mosiria said.
“I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone. I am a Christian, a church elder, and my record is clean.”
Mosiria, who has been in charge of environmental matters in the county, defended his efforts in restoring order, particularly in controlling noise pollution.
“Babu Owino, you know very well that I have worked day and night to bring order to this city.
Even in Kileleshwa, I have ensured that clubs reduce their noise levels. In fact, you should be thanking me for that,” he stated.
According to Mosiria, his job has been about service delivery and ensuring Nairobians live in a better environment.
He accused Babu Owino of making baseless claims without proof. “We know your record, Babu. I wonder what you tell God when you go to church,” he added.
Addressing allegations that he mismanaged the distribution of medicine during his tenure in the health department, Mosiria strongly denied any wrongdoing.
He explained that medicine distribution was closely monitored and involved several officials, including MCAs, health promoters, and national government representatives.
“When I was in charge of health services, I did my best. We worked as a team to ensure medicine reached hospitals.
If anyone claims I took empty boxes instead of medicine, let them bring proof. Stop lying to Nairobians,” he said.
The ongoing political battle between the two leaders comes at a time when Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is taking steps to bring order to the city.
Recently, he banned hawking in the Central Business District (CBD) as part of efforts to decongest the city.
Mosiria maintains that he is focused on serving Nairobi residents and will not be distracted by baseless accusations.
“I have done my part. I will continue serving this city with integrity,” he concluded.
