Solomon, a 50-year-old man born into a wealthy Indian-Muslim family in Mombasa, Kenya, is appealing for assistance to rebuild his life after being disowned by his family.
His troubles began when he married Mercy Atieno, a Kenyan woman of African descent, and converted to Christianity in 2019.
Speaking in an emotional interview, Solomon recounted how his decision to marry outside his community and embrace a new faith led to estrangement from his family.
“Marrying Mercy and converting to Christianity were decisions I made out of love and conviction. But my family couldn’t accept it, and they completely cut me off,” he explained.
Before being disowned, Solomon received KSh 23 million from his inheritance, which he invested in various businesses, including rental houses, shops, and commuter vehicles in Mombasa and Mtwapa.
However, his ventures faced a series of unfortunate setbacks. Tenants vacated his properties, citing inexplicable supernatural occurrences, while frequent accidents rendered his vehicles unusable. Eventually, he was forced to sell his assets at a loss.
Hoping for a fresh start, Solomon moved his family to Kakamega and later to Kisumu. Despite his efforts, he faced immense challenges finding employment.
“Many Indians mocked me for marrying an African and converting to Christianity. Others simply refused to offer me work,” he lamented.
Currently residing in Eldoret, Solomon lives in a rented bedsitter with his wife and four children. He described their daily struggles, including a recent eviction due to unpaid rent and difficulty providing food and school fees for their children.
“My wife recently gave birth to our fourth child, and we are barely surviving,” he added.
Determined to change his family’s circumstances, Solomon is appealing to well-wishers for help in setting up a business.
“If I can establish a business, I know I can work hard to support my family and rebuild our lives,” he affirmed.
He is calling on Kenyans of goodwill to assist with donations, food, or any financial aid. Those willing to help can reach him at 0795784329.
