Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has strongly rejected claims that he is part of a new political formation in Mt Kenya aimed at challenging President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
The rumours, which circulated widely on social media, suggested that Muturi had joined forces with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to create a political alliance in the region.
Other names mentioned in the alleged coalition included Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
In response to the fake news, Muturi took to social media, specifically X (formerly Twitter), to distance himself from the claims.
He accused the individuals behind the misinformation of trying to tarnish his name and mislead his supporters.
He strongly criticized the spread of falsehoods, emphasizing that such actions went against the values of truth and integrity.
Muturi's statement read, “To those engaging in the spread of fake news and circulating fabricated posters with the intent to tarnish my name, your actions are not only baseless but also a disservice to the principles of truth and integrity.”
He urged the public to rely only on verified information from his official channels, ensuring that they were not misled by rumors.
While Muturi denied any involvement in the alleged political alliance, the speculation continues, particularly around Rigathi Gachagua's growing influence in Mt Kenya.
Gachagua has hinted that the region may be moving away from President Ruto’s camp and could soon see the formation of a new political party.
According to Gachagua's allies, this new party would attract many leaders from Mt Kenya who feel that the current political leadership is not meeting the region's needs.
In a separate statement, Gachagua mentioned that he might join forces with Kalonzo Musyoka, noting that the Wiper leader had supported former President Mwai Kibaki in the past.
Gachagua believes this alliance could gather enough votes from both Mt Kenya and Ukambani to form a powerful coalition for the upcoming election.
