Kenyatta University Student Found Dead After Disappearing for Days

Fidel Denis Ofuong'o, a fifth-year aerospace engineering student from Kenyatta University, has been found dead after going missing for several days.

The 23-year-old, from Malela Village in Kisumu County, was last seen on Saturday, January 11, 2025, when he went out with friends. 

His family reported him missing when he failed to return home by Sunday evening, starting a search that ended in tragedy.

Fidel’s brother, Basil Benson, explained the details of Fidel’s disappearance. According to Basil, Fidel had gone to Kombewa market with friends before traveling to Holo Market.

There, they met other acquaintances from their village, who persuaded Fidel to join them at Black Pearl Restaurant in Kisumu’s Nyamasaria area. 

The group spent time at the restaurant until around 3 a.m. when the others left to return home, leaving Fidel behind.

The family grew concerned when Fidel did not come home the next day, and they began their search.

In an effort to find him, the family reached out to the public through social media. Hezborne Migott, a Kisumu-based influencer, was contacted by a friend of the family to post about Fidel’s disappearance on his Facebook page.

Despite these efforts, the search ended on Monday afternoon when Fidel’s body was discovered in River Nyamasaria.

Fidel’s body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. 

While awaiting the results, Fidel’s family has been mourning the loss of a young man who was known for his kindness and hardworking nature.

Basil shared his emotional thoughts on social media, remembering his brother as someone who always fought for justice, referencing Fidel’s involvement in protests in June 2024.

The family is still reeling from the loss and has called for prayers as they prepare to give Fidel a dignified farewell. 

The cause of his death remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to uncover what happened during the hours Fidel spent after his friends left him at the restaurant.

Fidel’s untimely passing has left the community in shock, and his family is left to deal with the painful loss of a beloved son, brother, and friend.
