A woman from Kitale, Melvine Nanjala Macheso, has shared a painful story of how she was abandoned by her Facebook lover on the day of their wedding.
The mother of three had hoped to begin a new chapter of her life with the man she met online, only to be left devastated when he failed to show up.
Melvine met Moses on Facebook, and after several conversations, he expressed his desire to settle down and marry her.
"He told me he wasn’t looking for a girlfriend, but a wife. I was happy because I thought I had found someone serious," Melvine explained during an interview on Citizen TV.
Moses quickly convinced her that he was the right man for her, even meeting her pastor to discuss their potential marriage.
"He came to church with me, and told my pastor that he wanted to marry me and take care of my two kids. Everyone liked him," Melvine said.
To further prove his intentions, Moses even gave the pastor KSh 2,000, which he had borrowed from Melvine.
As their relationship progressed, Moses began to pressure Melvine for a wedding, promising her a better life.
"He sent me pictures of a big house he was supposedly building for us. I was excited because I thought I was marrying a wealthy man," she recalled.
However, trouble started when Moses asked Melvine to borrow money for their wedding.
He claimed he was waiting for a loan to cover the wedding expenses but needed KSh 10,000 to begin the process.
Melvine trusted him, and over the next few weeks, she borrowed money from friends and lenders, totaling KSh 148,000, to cover wedding costs, including the venue and gown.
But on their wedding day in November 2023, everything fell apart. "The church was full.
Everyone was waiting, but Moses didn’t show up. I called him, but he kept saying he was on his way. By 5 p.m., I knew I had been played," Melvine said, her voice trembling with emotion.
As the evening wore on, guests left, and Melvine was left alone with her pastor.
"I stayed with my pastor for three days, thinking about the debts I had and how I would support my kids," she said.
Melvine is still paying off the loans and struggles to move on. She is now calling for help to clear the debts that were left in the wake of her heartbreak.
"I’m still struggling. If anyone is willing to help me, they can send money to my number, 0797953116," she added, hoping for a way out of her financial burden.
