A section of Valley Road in Nairobi was blocked after a wall at Loreto Convent School collapsed onto several parked vehicles.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon following a heavy downpour that caused a mudslide.
The fallen wall damaged multiple cars, although fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The wall, which was located along the edge of the school’s compound, gave way after hours of persistent rainfall in the area.
The heavy rain caused soil erosion, weakening the wall’s foundation.
As the structure collapsed, it spilled debris onto the road, blocking part of Valley Road and trapping several vehicles that were parked near the school.
Emergency services, including the Nairobi City County officials, quickly responded to the scene.
They worked alongside the police to clear the road and assist drivers whose cars had been damaged by the falling debris.
The cleanup operation took several hours, leading to significant traffic delays in the area as one lane of the busy road was blocked.
Residents in the area voiced concerns over the safety of buildings near roads, particularly during the rainy season.
Some expressed that proper maintenance of walls, drainage systems, and other infrastructure could prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
Local authorities are now under pressure to ensure that public safety is a priority, especially during heavy rains, which are common in Nairobi.
The incident caused significant disruptions to the flow of traffic along Valley Road, which is a key route for both commuters and motorists.
As part of the cleanup, workers from the Nairobi County government removed the debris, allowing vehicles to pass through again by the evening.
While the school administration has not issued an official statement about the incident, it is expected that they will be working with local authorities to assess the situation.
