The child died instantly after being hit by a lorry. The incident, which took place late in the evening, shocked locals and drew a swift response from the police.
The accident occurred when the lorry, which was carrying construction bricks, lost control while climbing a hill.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle rolled backward and crashed into several people, including the young boy and his father.
The boy, who was with his father at the time, was hit and died on the spot.
Two other individuals, including a pregnant woman, were also injured in the incident.
The lorry’s loss of control caused it to damage a nearby kiosk, injuring the owner.
Traffic officers responded to the scene promptly, clearing the wreckage and ensuring the area was safe.
The body of the deceased was taken to Shalom Community Hospital Mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted.
Meanwhile, the injured were rushed to the same hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
According to a senior traffic officer, the lorry’s loss of control while climbing the hill was the main factor behind the crash.
The officer, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the boy died immediately after being hit by the vehicle.
This tragic incident comes at a time when road accidents in Kenya are becoming an increasing concern.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reported that 2024 saw the highest number of fatalities in recent history, with nearly 5,000 deaths, which is an alarming rise compared to previous years.
In December alone, nearly 500 people lost their lives in road accidents, a 10% increase from the same period in 2023.
Motorcycles and commercial vehicles were largely responsible for these crashes, according to the NTSA.
