Morara Kebaso, a lawyer and activist, has publicly claimed that he is being constantly followed, monitored, and surveilled by unknown individuals, which has severely affected his health and well-being.
In a statement made on January 16, 2025, Kebaso revealed that the harassment has led to a loss of joy, appetite, and a sense of isolation, as even his friends are distancing themselves out of fear of government persecution.
"In the last few weeks, I have been hounded and tormented by the state. The INJECT vehicle continues to be held at Central Police Station without any booking, complaint, or legal processing by the police," Kebaso said, referring to the ongoing detention of his vehicle.
He also shared that his businesses have come under investigation by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over unpaid taxes, which he believes to be politically motivated.
Kebaso further expressed his distress over the defamation lawsuit filed against him by Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi, adding to the pressure he feels from various state agencies.
“I have lost my joy and appetite because of all these challenges,” he confessed.
He also spoke about the toll these issues have had on his mental health, as he struggles to cope with the continuous surveillance and legal battles.
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Kebaso remains steadfast in his commitment to his values.
He emphasized his belief in honesty, integrity, and humility, stating that he hopes his resilience will inspire the younger generation to pursue leadership roles without fear.
"The government may try to intimidate and silence me, but I will not back down," Kebaso said with conviction.
The activist is currently facing allegations of owing Ksh 27 million in unpaid taxes, a situation he has criticized as a public attempt to silence his voice.
Kebaso has made it clear that he is willing to meet his tax obligations but condemned the use of state institutions for what he sees as a political witch hunt against him.
