On January 27, 2025, Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was appointed to a senior position in the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
The announcement was made by DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa during the launch of the party’s new headquarters.
Wamalwa recognized Salasya for his hard work and dedication to the people of Kenya, particularly in advocating for farmers and youth.
In his speech, Wamalwa highlighted Salasya’s strong stand against the controversial Finance Bill, as well as his commitment to championing the concerns of Gen-Zs, young people born between 1997 and 2012.
He also praised the MP for his continued efforts to address the issues affecting farmers in his constituency.
“In recognition of your efforts as the champion of Gen-Zs, the farmers, and your rejection of the Finance Bill, the NEC (National Executive Committee) has agreed to elevate Salasya to a very senior position in our party,” Wamalwa said.
He added that Salasya’s appointment was a reward for his activism and dedication to pushing for positive changes in the country.
One of the key issues Salasya has been vocal about is the management of the national budget.
Recently, during a public event in Mumias, Salasya raised questions about the funds allocated for sugarcane farmers' bonuses, highlighting that the money was not included in the national budget.
His willingness to challenge the government on such matters reflects his commitment to transparency and accountability in public spending.
Moreover, Salasya has been critical of some government programs, including the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the new university funding model.
He claims these initiatives are not functioning effectively and have failed to meet the expectations of the public.
In a bold move, Salasya even offered to serve as an advisor to President William Ruto, suggesting that the president’s current advisors were not providing him with accurate information about the status of these programs.
“I want to tell you, Mr. President, that your people don’t tell you the truth.
The SHA and the new university model are not working,” Salasya said, emphasizing that he could provide honest advice to the president to improve the country’s governance.
Wamalwa, during the launch, also emphasized the importance of including young people in leadership roles.
He believes that the youth are a vital force for political change and that their involvement will be key to ensuring the success of the party in future elections.
Salasya’s appointment to a senior role within DAP-K signals his growing influence within the party and Kenyan politics.
