On January 12, 2025, President William Ruto took to the podium at the Dagoretti United Pentecostal Church to respond to critics who have suggested that he may only serve a single term as Kenya's president.
Ruto, known for his resilience, reminded the audience of the challenges he faced even before assuming office.
"Some people are talking about one, two, or three terms. Let me remind them that many never imagined I would serve even one term.
But who is God?" Ruto said, his voice filled with confidence.
The president spoke from the heart, reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings to the highest office in the land.
"I came from a family that was not well-known. I am proud of where I have come from and the opportunity God has given me," he added, underscoring his deep gratitude for the chance to lead Kenya.
Ruto's rise to the presidency has been marked by hard work and a determination to overcome obstacles.
He explained that he has always believed in the power of faith and dedication. "God has entrusted me with an assignment to lead Kenya and bring about change.
I am determined to ensure we achieve this transformation," Ruto declared.
The president also used the occasion to call for unity among the country's political leaders.
He stressed that transformation cannot be achieved by one individual, party, or region alone.
"A united nation can accomplish great things," he said, encouraging leaders from all sides to work together for the betterment of the nation.
Ruto further assured Kenyans that, despite any challenges or setbacks, the country would continue to make progress.
"Kenya will not falter, stumble, or fall. We will stand firm and move forward together," he promised.
Ruto's speech came at a time when political discourse surrounding his leadership continues to grow.
While some have questioned his future in office, others, like Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, have firmly backed the president.
"Ruto will serve beyond 2027," Sudi stated, adding that leadership in Kenya is open to all qualified individuals, regardless of their tribe.
