On January 2, 2025, the Mombasa County Police made a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, arresting eight individuals suspected of involvement in a series of robberies across the region.
The suspects were allegedly behind a string of incidents that had been terrorizing residents and visitors in Mombasa.
Mombasa County Police Commander, Peter Kimani, confirmed the arrests, calling it a major success in tackling the rising crime rates in the area.
According to Kimani, the suspects were involved in various criminal activities, including a recent attack on a boda boda rider.
One of the suspects allegedly chopped off the rider’s left hand in the early morning while he was heading to work. This violent act had caused widespread fear among residents.
Kimani further explained that the arrested individuals were also responsible for a robbery involving a tourist van last month.
The van had been attacked as it was picking up a staff member, and the criminals managed to steal valuable items.
The police were able to recover several stolen goods, including mobile phones, during the arrests.
The police commander issued a strong warning to other criminals operating in the area, stating that their time was running out.
Kimani explained that some of the arrested suspects were being financed by individuals who used them to carry out criminal activities, such as stealing mobile phones.
He promised that the police would not only target the criminals but also those who were supporting them financially.
“We are determined to break the entire chain of crime.
Those who are receiving stolen goods and using them for their benefit will also face serious charges,” Kimani declared.
The arrest of the eight robbery suspects is seen as a crucial step in restoring safety and security in Mombasa.
Residents have expressed relief at the news, hoping that this move will lead to a decrease in the number of violent robberies in the region.
