President William Ruto has publicly expressed his support for U.S. President Donald Trump's new executive order that recognizes only two genders—male and female.
Speaking during a Sunday service at Global Cathedral Church in Nairobi, Ruto stated that Trump's policy aligns with Kenya’s values and beliefs.
"This year, we have seen very welcoming developments from the U.S. As a leading democracy, they have now adopted a policy direction that supports what we believe in," Ruto said.
"Boys must remain boys, men must remain men, women must remain women, and girls must remain girls."
On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order stating that the U.S. government will officially recognize only two genders.
During his inaugural speech, Trump declared, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
President Ruto welcomed this decision, noting that it strengthens Kenya’s stand on the matter.
However, critics argue that such policies might affect international relations and funding for social programs.
Addressing concerns about Kenya’s security mission in Haiti, Ruto reassured the public that Trump supports Kenya’s efforts.
Some people feared that Trump’s administration might withdraw support for the deployment, but Ruto dismissed such claims.
"I was requested by the President of the U.S. to provide Kenya's security diplomacy that is legendary and known to support Haiti," Ruto affirmed.
"Now, I am very proud that even President Trump, with the new administration, supports Kenya's mission."
Kenya recently deployed 217 additional elite police officers to Haiti to help restore stability in the troubled Caribbean nation.
Despite worries that the new U.S. administration might change its stance, Ruto insisted that the diplomatic ties between Kenya and the U.S. remain strong.
"There is a special bond of friendship between the United States and Kenya," he said. "The USA is a blessing to our nation, and we work together in many aspects."
However, reports suggest that Trump’s recent executive orders could impact Kenya’s aid and grants from organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
