Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his continued criticisms of the Kenya Kwanza Government, urging him to move on from his impeachment and stop dwelling on past grievances.
Mudavadi’s comments on January 20, 2025, came in response to Gachagua’s allegations that President William Ruto orchestrated his impeachment and scripted speeches that damaged his political reputation. According to Mudavadi, the time for mourning is over, and Kenya must now focus on progress.
“Let us not waste our time; let us move on. If somebody was mourning, they have finished mourning, the mourning period is over. Kenya must move on. We don't have time to listen to you grieving every day,” Mudavadi stated firmly.
Gachagua, who was impeached by the Senate on October 17, 2023, after being found guilty of constitutional violations, has since been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the government’s leadership.
He recently claimed that President Ruto used to write his speeches, including controversial statements about the government’s shareholding, which he believes were intended to tarnish his image.
“When you see MPs speaking, it’s Ruto who has sent them. I was with him, and he used to write to me what to say. I said it for three days and realized this person wanted to make me fall out with Kenyans,” Gachagua alleged.
In response, Mudavadi dismissed these claims, telling Kenyans not to fall for what he referred to as Gachagua's distractions. “Kenyans must not listen to him, as he no longer holds authority after his impeachment. His time is over,” Mudavadi added.
Since his ousting from office, Gachagua has continued to criticize the Kenya Kwanza government, focusing particularly on issues such as security and accountability. He has called for the reinforcement of security across the country and for swift action to address the rise in abductions.
