Sirisia Member of Parliament (MP), John Waluke, has rejected the reports of abductions happening across Kenya, calling them nothing more than "baseless propaganda" aimed at discrediting the government and President William Ruto.
Speaking in Kabuchai, Bungoma County, on Friday, January 3, 2025, Waluke dismissed the claims of abductions and insisted that no such incidents were taking place.
“There is nothing like abductions. This is propaganda aimed at tarnishing the name of the government, our country, and your name as the President," Waluke stated firmly.
The MP further explained that some people were using these claims to weaken the government and damage the image of the president.
His comments were a direct response to the growing accusations about abductions involving young government critics.
Waluke’s remarks come after National Assembly Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wah, made similar statements.
On December 31, 2024, Ichung’wah accused some individuals of faking abductions by hiding in Airbnbs with their partners, only to later claim that they had been kidnapped.
He stressed that the government was not involved in abductions based on people's social media posts, stating, “The government of Kenya has no business abducting anybody on the basis of what they say on social media.”
Despite the dismissals from these leaders, there has been growing concern over a series of abductions across the country, particularly among young people who have criticized the government.
One high-profile case involved cartoonist Gideon Kibet, known as 'Kibet Bull,' who disappeared after meeting with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to discuss political matters.
Other individuals, including Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, Billy Mwangi, Rony Kiplangat, and Steve Kavingo, have also gone missing under similar circumstances.
In response to the rising concerns, President Ruto has assured the public that his administration does not support such activities.
Speaking about the matter, Ruto stated, “I want to tell parents; these children are a blessing to us.
Every parent should take care of their children. As a government, we will do our part and end the abductions so that the young people of Kenya can live in peace and be disciplined."
